How to stop WiFi password sharing and account multi-login for Hotspots

The "One Voucher, Five Friends" Problem

Password sharing is the biggest threat to Hotspot profitability. If one customer buys a 1-hour voucher and shares it with their friends, you are providing service for free.

1. Limit Concurrent Sessions

With Nova WiFi and MikroTik, you can strictly enforce a "One Device per Account" rule. If a second device tries to log in with the same credentials, the first one is kicked or the second is denied.

2. MAC-Binding (Lock-to-Device)

For even tighter security, enable MAC-binding. The first device that logs in with a voucher has its hardware address (MAC) locked to that voucher. No other device can use it, even if they have the password.

3. Walled Gardens and Captive Portals

Ensure that all unauthenticated traffic is redirected to your login page. Use strong firewall rules to prevent users from bypassing your portal via DNS tunneling or VPNs.

By implementing these three steps via Nova WiFi, you ensure that every user on your network is a paying customer.
